About My Car
1976 Mustang Cobra II. The car was campaigned in the SCCA Solo II and Pro Solo's in the race prepared categories until 1985 when the arrival of children and graduate studies retired the car. I recently completed an 8 year ground up rebuild (children take more work and $$$$ than cars!).
A 1970 Torino shaker hood scoop was added in place of the stock plastic unit and is attached to a Ford Motor Sport air cleaner. The turn signals were moved to the bumpers for a more contemporary look. The nose was extended one inch and the grill was patched and recessed an inch.
The suspension has polyurethane bushing on the ride components, with aluminum sway bar mounts and a combination of polyurethane and heim joints to transfer the body roll. The car ride has been dropped by 2 inches by switching to softer and shorter coils in the front and by adding spacers and shorter shackles in the rear.
Four wheel disk brakes were added. Ford Granada rotors in front with GM Wilwood calipers. The rear has 11 Lincoln rotors with Seville calipers with emergency brake provisions.
The car rides on Progressive 15 x 7 rims with P205/50ZR15's in the front and 15 x 8 rims with P225/50ZR15's in the rear.
The 302 short block is relatively stock with forged TRW pistons cut down for a 9.5:1 compression ratio. The short block was fully balanced and blueprinted. The heads are 1970 351 Windsor units. They have been pocket polished and gasket matched.
Screw in rocker studs, guide plates and hardened exhaust seats. Comp cams roller tipped 1.6 rockers with SVO push rods. The cam is by Crane with duration @ .050 210° Intake 218° Exhaust, advertised duration is 266° 274° respectively with lift of .456 intake, .472 exhaust and 114° lobe separation.
Weiand Stealth intake was used with the Holley 4160. A Holley electric fuel pump was installed in conjunction with an inertia switch for safety. The ignition is basically stock with an Accell blueprinted Duraspark distributor.
