About My Car

1974 Coupe I happened on this Mustang II sitting in a wrecking yard while I was hunting for parts for a 77 Coupe I was building. It had been hauled in as an abandoned vehicle. It had straighter fenders and doors than the ones on the car I was working on so I bought it as a parts car. It was a zero option car with a 2.3 and 4 spd. When I got it home I decided to try to start it so I could move it around under its own power instead of pushing it. It turned out the only thing wrong with it was a rusted out thermostat housing (it even had a good battery and ½ tank of fuel)! I eventually bought another 77 Coupe to build so I never got around to taking it apart. We eventually cleaned the car up and let the kids use it for a while. When we got it back it sat until we sold the Cobra II which my wife had been driving. My wife had really liked the Cobra and wanted another II so we decided to redo the 74 for her. The engine runs well and doesn’t use oil so it was cleaned up, received a new timing belt, bigger 2 bbl carb and was converted to electronic ignition. The transmission was changed to an automatic and the rear end changed out to an 8” with 3.0 gears to make cruising on the interstate a little more comfortable. Rather than installing a factory AC unit, I decided to add a dealer installed unit to the car (which actually works as well or better than the factory setup) along with a 77 V8 radiator to keep the engine happy. The car had a brown interior and console installed was painted its current Black with Silver Cobra style stripes and aftermarket wheels were put on. This is the first non V8 II for me (my current driver is a 77 Coupe with a 351/4 Spd) and I was little worried about lack of power. Overall the 74 does well and most importantly my wife loves it.
