About My Car
This car has been a continuing project since my older brother bought it for me in 1989 as a 21st birthday present. He was able to get it for $100, due to it's blown motor and slight nose damage. It came from the factory blue on blue with a V6 and automatic. I immediately dropped in a 302 2bbl motor from a '76 ghia II parts car. I also bolted on the ghia's hood, nose panel, and fender. It ran well, and I loved the car, but I soon wanted more power.Over the years, I've installed a total of 4 different 302 engines, each more powerful than the last. I also restored the body and painted it black about 10 years ago. My current 302 is the 332" stroker motor pictured here.Parts in this engine include a solid lifter camshaft, TFS bracket heat heads with o-ring headgaskets, Victor intake, 750 race demon carb, MSD distributor with 6-AL box. 1972 302 block magged, deburred, oil returns enlarged and smoothed, decked, bored to 4.030", and drilled for 1/2" head bolts. Crankshaft is 3.25" stroke billet steel unit with HUGE radius fillets, rods are eagle H-beams 5.5" long, with full floating pins, pistons are JE ultralight forged. Deckheight is zero, compression is 10.9:1. A steel mainstud girdle helps hold the lower end together for a max of 8000rpm. Oil pump is a melling 90psi unit with 30% increased volume, pump driveshaft is a forged SVO unit. The 332 incher makes approximately 550hp@ 7600rpm.I've installed a 1959 T-bird 9" rear housing and detroit locker center section with 4.10:1 gears.I swapped in a pinto manual steering rack and ragjoint when I rebuilt the frontend, which shaved off a lot of weight and cleaned up the engine bay. The car has a custom Fluidyne 4 row alum. radiator and electric fans. I have removed both bumpers from the car for less weight.I had Dynamic transmissions in connecticut build me a fully rollerized "mighty might" C-4 with reverse full manual valve body, Vasco alloy input shaft, and solid front drum. The little transmission is rated for 850hp, and waranteed for a year. Dynamic also built me a custom 5500rpm stall speed converter specifically to fit the tiny bellhousing and flexplate of the Stang II.Those guys rule, I can't say enough about how good they treated me, and the durability of their product.I have 2000+ HARD miles on the C-4, and it still works like new.I happen to LOVE Mustang IIs, theyre one of my favorite cars. Theyre incredibly light, fit a V8 nicely, are cheap and easy to get parts for, and are extremely fast when built up.Nobody around here has any problems with the "lowly" Mustang II, because this one is a beast.
