About My Car
This car has been in my family my entire life. It was purchased new
by my father at Ron Stevens Ford in Edmond Oklahoma (my home town). It
was my father's car after college and he owned it before he even met my
mom! It Was a dealer special on the lot where it came with a four speed
manual, the 2.3liter engine and Ashton Cloth interior. The only option
he ordered was a dealer-installed A/C unit, yuck!
I never remember my dad owning the car, I was too young at the time
but I remember my grandfather having it when I was five (yes the car and
I go back a long time!) and riding to and from the park in it with my
cousins. By the late 80's and early 90's it was in bad shape. The engine
leaked oil all over the place and the car stalled a lot not to mention
that the interior was a complete faded mess. After my grandmother died
it sat untouched for 4 years deteriorating in the hot Oklahoma sun.
Things started to change after the four years. My grandfather was
fixing it up and he used it as his daily commute car. A whole list of
things were fixed to get it running good again but he kept that up until
I wanted it, the only problem was that I lived in Connecticut!
In 1998 with many things fixed, he drove the car under it's own
power 1500 miles to my door step. I was overjoyed, this was the car I
had wanted for the last 7 years! Shortly after that I had the engine
rebuilt with 135,000 miles on it and after that it was normal things
that needed replacing. A year after my grandfather drove the car up, he
died and the car was a potent reminder of him. With the new interior, I
am now able to attend shows with it and if my grandfather were alive, he
would be proud.
